Spring is here and it is full of excitement and new life! You’ll have the opportunity to visit the different Easter babies, including chicks and bunnies in the indoor petting zoo. Watch some of the animals receive their very own Easter egg treats – will the animals eat the eggs, play with them, or smash them?

Drop by the craft station to create an Easter basket, butterfly wings, or butterfly antennae and then enjoy a variety of games and activities for young and old. A special butterfly parade will take the little ones on a magical “flight” around the zoo and everyone will enjoy learning amazing secrets about eggs with the hands-on science experiments.

For something completely different, check out the must-see spectacle: Flea-ster Circus. There will also be live music, face painting, Easter treats, animal encounters, and much more. It’s the perfect way to celebrate spring on Easter Monday!

Spend a fun-filled family afternoon at Muttart Conservatory – just the thing to brighten up your holiday Monday after a long winter. We are celebrating spring with puppet shows such as Jack and the Beanstalk, plus a creative puppet workshop for kids to make their own puppets to take home. There will also be face painting and a petting zoo.

Don’t forget to check out the Feature Pyramid where the Tapestry of Colour display is awash with Tulips, Daffodils and Muscari.

Last year a friend of mine put me on to this site Kiz Club. I cannot begin to go through just how much they offer for free for you to print off and use with your little ones. If you are an elementary teacher, you have hit the jackpot with this site. Browse through all of the areas and you will find all kinds of educational activities.

Exciting news! The Muttart Conservatory will re-open to the public on Saturday, June 27. The Muttart Conservatory is currently closed to accommodate expansion and renovation work. The changes will not alter the pyramid structure, but will allow for improved use inside the building with new educational program space for use by all ages, and a gift shop and cafeteria easily accessible at the front.

Create a backyard garden
Encouraging kids to plant seeds and watch them grow is a great way to instil a respect and appreciation for nature. I remember back in grade one, we each moistened a bean seed, planted it in a paper cup and watched it grow. Once big enough, we each proudly took our bean plant home to place in our own garden. Planting vegetables is also a fun way to demonstrate how easy it can be to create your own source of food with just a little nurturing.

What a great way to recycle an Ikea catalogue than to make a dollhouse! We used glue, scissors, one Ikea catalogue and a Scholastic paking box (use could use any kind of cardboard). The beauty of the box is that is actually folds closed for storage. It was lots of fun to make and a good way to teach about reusing materials. Our dollhouse included a kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms and a playroom.
